Red Light District
The Amsterdam Red Light District is famous for it’s size and accessibility. Located in the heart of Amsterdam’s bustling city center the neighborhood is actually very easy to find. You might even accidentally stumble upon it whilst exploring the city. In previous decades, the Red Light District was a dark and dangerous part of town where you shouldn’t carelessly stroll around. These days however, the area has cleaned up thanks to efforts from the municipality and other institutions. Because of that, the Amsterdam Red Light District has become quite a safe place for both the prostitutes as well as tourists and can therefore be visited without worrying for your safety.

Amsterdam is famous for many things, but few are as iconic as the canals. In the early years of the city, they were used as means of transportation and water management. Currently, the second still holds true. Since the Netherlands are below sea level, water tends to run rampant if not managed correctly. That is why the canals are not only beautiful but also very important for the city. There are many canal tours available, where a boat will take you on a trip around the city canals and past many of the beautiful sights the city has to offer. This is a very unique way to see them all, one we most certainly recommend.
There are many different museums in Amsterdam. One of the most famous ones is the Anne Frank House. During World War II, the museum looked was an ordinary house. However, there was a secret room behind a bookcase, which served as a hide-out for the Jewish girl Anne Frank and her family. She wrote a famous diary during her stay there. Curious? A replica of an old VOC(the Dutch East India Company)-ship located near the Central Station of Amsterdam. The Amsterdam was a ship that stranded near Hastings in Great Britain due to a heavy storm during its first journey after being completed. It was carrying goods meant for trading and a large amount of silver. Most of the silver was rescued by the crew, but after they abandoned the ship it was plundered by Englishmen for a few days until the British army came to restore order. You can walk around the carefully replicated ship and view all the different rooms on board, definitely worth your time!
